What are different alarm systems for motorcycles, scooters and quads in Belgium ?

Your insurer may require you to install alarm/security systems on your motorcycle or scooter, particularly in case where your vehicle must be fully insured (especially against theft).

If your insurer requires you to install this or that alarm system, it will be appropriate to carry out the installation ! Otherwise, and if your vehicle were to be stolen, your insurer could refuse compensation !

It would indeed be inappropriate to pay for insurance that would not cover the event of theft of your motorcycle...

Please also note that the insurer may also ask you for proof of installation of the anti-theft system after the actual theft of your vehicle! Be sure to keep the invoice proving that your motorcycle alarm system meets the standards required by the insurer.

But what are requirements requested by insurer ?

A distinction should be made between ANTI-THEFT systems (to prevent theft) and AFTER-THEFT systems (to try to find the stolen vehicle).

If an insurer requires one of these ANTI-THEFT systems, you will need to install an alarm system to prevent the theft of your motorcycle, scooter, Can Am or Quad.

What are these criteria and above all what are we talking about ?

IM alarm systems (or VV1 according to the old name)

This is a system that prevents the engine from starting.

Immobilization is automatically activated after stopping the engine or failing that within 10 to 60 seconds following extraction of the ignition key.

Immobilization is generally achieved by a combination of two actions preventing starting, i.e. neutralizing the starter, cutting off the ignition, cutting off the fuel supply pump, etc.), a simple action is also tolerated for little that it is NOT the only neutralization of the starter.

In all cases, immobilization can only be achieved by the simple mechanics of the key.

IA2 alarm systems (or VV2 according to the old name)

This system includes all requirements of an IM alarm (or VV1 according to the old name) but with a siren in addition to the engine shutdown(s).

A powerful acoustic and visual signal is thus emitted as soon as a break-in, attempted towing, movement or impact of your motorcycle is detected.

This protection is done by detecting shocks, inclination or movement via a GPS module, perimeter detection is also possible to protect your side cases, the underside of the saddle and/or your rear trunk.

AL2 alarm systems (or VV3 according to the old name)

This system does not prevent the engine from starting.

This system only has the same siren as the VV2 and is used to supplement an engine cut-off already installed or fitted as standard in order to give it the characteristics of an IA2 system.

It will be mounted for example on vehicles equipped with a keyless system meeting the VV1 or IM standard, this approach will be simpler and less expensive than an unnecessary multiplication of equipment that duplicates and is a source of breakdown or appearance of problems. error code.

TT1 or TT2 alarm systems (or CJ0 according to the old name)

This system is equipped with the means of communication necessary to locate a stolen vehicle. Satellites (GPS) are generally used to determine the location of the motorcycle and GSM for the transmission of information.

There are two autonomous systems:

• TT1: which arms automatically if the vehicle is moved with the engine off.

• TT2: which arms automatically when the engine is started without the planned deactivation procedure being followed or when a protection system emits an alarm signal [break-in detection, VV1, VV2, alarm detection 'a slope, …).

AT2 alarm systems (or CJ1 according to the old name)

This system prevents the thief from continuing to drive the vehicle. To do this, the speed is reduced so that it reaches 10 to 30 km/h. In addition, external acoustic and visual signaling is activated to discourage the thief from continuing his route.

At no time is the vehicle, with the engine running, immobilized. This is so as not to endanger the safety of other road users. Only if the engine has been switched off for more than 60 seconds will the vehicle be completely immobilized.

TT3 or TT4 alarm systems (or CJ2 according to the old name)

A CJ2 system combines the functions of a CJ0 and those of a CJ1, namely the location of a stolen vehicle and the immobilization of this vehicle after the engine has completely stopped. This is not a reduction in speed. The vehicle is simply immobilized when the engine has already been switched off.
